ABOUT OUR MUSIC
The Adrian Sherriff Trio performs original compositions by the band members and unique arrangements of jazz repertoire. Jazz repertoire by Thelonious Monk, Steve Coleman, and George Gershwin are re-imagined in a landscape where odd metres, rhythmic stratafication and bitonality collide to create a rich and stimulating tapestry.
Drawing inspiration from North- and South-Indian Classical music, the band performs original compositions that are rhythmically charged and swoop deftly across cyclical forms.
Adrian Sherriff is a performer, composer, teacher and multi-instrumentalist [brass, winds, percussion, electronic music (laptop/Ipad/analog/theremin) and voice]. He is a Lecturer at NMIT in Melbourne; teaching music technology, intercultural music and performance (in which he directs the institute’s Electronic Music ensemble). Adrian has toured throughout India, South East Asia, Europe, North America and Australia. His current performance projects include: an acoustic trio exploring Carnatic metric formulations within jazz contexts, Kewti, a microtonal/polymetric trio with trombone, fretless guitar and drums. and Pausa II, an electroacoustic duo exploring real time visualisation. He is currently a musical director of the Australian Art Orchestra.
